The world mourns the loss of a truly remarkable man, Richard David Herbert, affectionately known as "Herb", who peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, June 24, 2024, in Titusville, Florida at the age of 81. Herb's earthly journey began on March 27, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Herb attended the Elizabeth Public School system graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960 and also attended the New Jersey State Police Academy prior to becoming a State Trooper in the State of New Jersey. His legacy will forever live on in those who knew and cherished him. Herb's life was one marked by dedication and service to his country. His career path was a testament to his unwavering commitment. In 1969 he embarked on a fulfilling journey as a State Trooper in New Jersey—a role he held with honor for 26 years. Rising through the ranks, Herb became a First Class Detective before retiring in 1994. Not one to rest on his laurels, he continued his passion for investigative work as a Private Detective until 1999. However, Herb's dedication extended beyond law enforcement. A proud Marine, he enlisted in 1961 and served his nation admirably for an impressive 32 years. Rising to the rank of Sergeant Major First Class in 1984, Herb's military career was highlighted by his involvement in Operation Desert Storm and his tour of duty during the Gulf Crisis in 1991. While Herb's professional achievements were numerous and commendable, it was his love for family that truly defined him. He adored spending quality time with loved ones—especially relishing trips to Atlantic City with his brother Greg and nephew Ryan. Whether dining out with family and friends or attending military events which filled him with immense pride for serving his country, Herb's gentle smile and bright personality always shone through. In reminiscence lie Herb's fond memories carried by those he held dear and those who held him close in return.
