Lucille W. Massey was born in Chester, South Carolina, on May 11, 1931, to the late Celeste Hemphill White. She was educated in the Chester school system and a graduate of Finley High School. Lucille was baptized at Carmel Presbyterian Church in Chester, South Carolina, and was an active member. Her favorite hymns were, "Oh, How I Love Jesus," and "Amazing Grace." Lucille was a woman of strong faith who prayed daily, worshipping the Lord God, and her favorite scripture was Luke 17:5-10, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you." In the early 1950s, Lucille relocated to Roselle, New Jersey, where she met the late Robert Allen Massey, Jr., and they were joined in holy matrimony in 1954. From this union, they were blessed with three children Vernon, Theresa, and Lydia. Lucille started her employment as a Key-Punch operator at Shift Company in Union, New Jersey. In the early 1980s, she was hired to work in the family business, Massey Insurance Agency, in Newark with her brother-in-law, the late Raymond Massey. She began with digitizing office documents, and because of her warm nature and friendly smile, her role expanded to include Customer Service. She took great pride in her job and always did her very best for her clients, who loved her. When the business expanded to include a second location in Elizabeth, she headed that office until her retirement from Massey Agency in 2013. Lucille loved to sew, spend time gardening, and spent many days at her favorite park, Warinanco, where she loved to walk, chat with people, or just sit in her car with her crossword puzzles and I-Pad, taking in the scenery. She was a very caring and loving person who touched the lives of many because of her kind nature, honesty, and wisdom, and she was loyal to those she loved. Lucille departed this life on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at her home in Roselle, New Jersey, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Massey, Jr.; mother, Celeste White; stepfather, John White; brothers, Odell and John; sister, Dorothy; and two infant children, Barton and Geraldine Massey. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving son, Vernon; daughters, Theresa and Lydia; grandchildren, LaSandra, Tarrah, Harold, Craig, and Aleeyah Lucille; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Malachi, Issac, Abram, Olivia, Akira, Isiah, Amani, Simone, and Xavier; three sisters-in-law, Minnie Peal, Rita Flowers, and Sharon Frazier; special aunt, Hazel Walker; special friend, Johnnye Boyd; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
