Obituary:
In loving memory of Gregory Bynum
Gregory Bynum, a dedicated and compassionate soul, departed from this world on April 4, 2024, at his residence. Born on September 3, 1968, Gregory lived a life filled with cherished moments and meaningful connections that have left an indelible mark in the hearts of those who knew him.
After graduating from Irvington High School, where he proudly represented the High School Football team as a Blue Knight, Gregory embarked on a remarkable journey. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for driving, starting with school buses for Vogel's Bus Company. It was here that fate intervened, leading him to encounter the love of his life, the late Joyce Anne Ragland. Their union in holy matrimony was a testament to their unwavering bond and commitment to each other until Joyce's untimely passing on April 1, 1996.
Gregory's career path expanded as he transitioned to driving 18-wheeler tractor trailers and later found fulfillment as a driver for Waste Management in Matawan, NJ. However, beyond his professional accomplishments lay his proudest achievement - embracing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He went on to be baptized and devotedly served as a member of the Emmanuel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Newark, New Jersey under the esteemed leadership of the late Bishop Harold Nelson Foy. Gregory's involvement in various church ministries, including the H.N. Foy Youth & Young Adult Choir and Emmanuel's Musicians Ministry where he showcased his talent and passion for playing the bass guitar, reflected his deep-rooted faith and commitment to spiritual service.
Described as a quiet, loving, yet private individual with a down-to-earth demeanor, Gregory possessed a generous spirit that endeared him to those around him. His willingness to offer help without hesitation was emblematic of his kind-hearted nature - always willing to give the shirt off his back to others in need.
Gregory leaves behind cherished memories for his surviving family members including brothers Andre (Courtney) Wright and Oscar Bynum; stepchildren Anthony Ragland Sr., Regina Morris, and Sir. Edward Morris. He is preceded in death by his mother Johnnie Faye Barnes, father Oscar Bynum, and beloved wife Joyce Anne Ragland.
To honor and celebrate the extraordinary life of Gregory Bynum, a Celebration of Life service will be held on April 20, 2024, at Emmanuel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Newark followed by interment at Rosehill Cemetery and Crematory in Linden on April 23, 2024.
While we mourn the loss of an exceptional individual whose presence illuminated our lives in countless ways, we find solace in knowing that Gregory's legacy will endure through the memories we hold dear in our hearts.
May he rest in eternal peace.
