Eric Mickens Jr

December 1, 1974 — October 1, 2023

Eric Mickens Jr. was born on December 1st 1974 to Eric Mickens Sr) and Gertrude Ann Nichols (Mickens) in Elizabeth N. He was the first of 3 sons for Eric Sr., and the first of 2 sons for Gertrude (Trudy). Eric began his education in the Summit school system, prior to moving to Roselle, with his younger brother Melvin, to live with his father, grandmother and youngest brother Tyrick Mickens. During his school career, Eric played several sports at Abraham Clark High School, which included basketball, track and football. Over the years living on Frank St, he amassed a multitude of friends that were so tight knit that they were all as close as family. Besides his sports career, everyone knew Eric to be a great singer and soloist, just ask anyone under Ms. Rung's tutelage. Eric was one of the best to do it and was well known by many. Music was in his blood from early childhood and E, like most superstars, began in church. Fountain Baptist was his church home for years prior to adulthood. Over the years Eric held down many jobs, as he started early, working at McDonald's with friends like Rahman, Lawrence and Darryl. He has always been a hard worker and put his all into everything he did. The way that E Mick showed love for all his family and friends made him connect in a special way with all he came in contact with. Just ask Rahman, Detriah, B Mag, E Mag, Des Yates, JP, Waynee, Kendrick, Rodney, Ant Porter, Skeet, Hass, Hyk, David, Ryan, Kenesha, Tab, etc. The list can go on and on because his reach was wide due to the way he always loved and respected those he held close to him. Eric Mickens Jr entered this life alone on 12/1/1974 and was called home on 10/1/2023. He was preceded in death by both grandmothers, Alice World and Dorothy Perry, Uncles Melvin, Wallace, William and Navernis Binford, and father, Eric Mickens Sr. He is survived by loads of family and friends including his children: Samiya Mickens, Erica Mickens, and Eric Mickens III; brothers Melvin and Tyrick Mickens, Jeffrey Johnson, Todd Smith; sisters Renee Brown and Khadija Naim, step-mother Renee Johnson, and loads of people who considered Eric more than just a fairweather friend. Eric holds a special place in the hearts of all.
