Dennis Calvin Smith, was born February 19, 1938, the eldest of two children to the late James Calvin Smith and the Late Anne Lou Lillian Brown Smith in Jersey City, New Jersey, Dennis attended P.S. #22 Elementary School and graduated from Snyder High School in Jersey City, NJ.
After graduation, Dennis joined the military and served in the U.S. Air Force.
During his youth, Dennis was raised in the Monumental Baptist Church, in Jersey City, until his move to Union County, were he attended the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roselle, NJ. He later joined the Greater Promise Baptist Church of Linden, NJ.
Dennis was blessed during his life to love two women.
Dennis was married to the late Barbara Ann Lewis.
From this union they had four children Darryl S. Smith, of Endicott, NY, Michael A. Smith, of Easton, PA;
Dione Smith, of GA; and the late Denise Bennett. He later united with Mary Robinson and from this union one son was born, Genorace T. Robinson.
Dennis was employed by the General Motors Corporation in their Linden, NJ and Detroit, MI plants.
Dennis also worked with the Port Authority of NY/ NJ, PATH train system and the Roselle Public School System until his retirement.
Dennis was a loveable man. He would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. He was full of joy, light, and enthusiasm. If you were around him he was guaranteed to make you laugh intentionally and unintentionally. He was a great father and an even more wonderful grandfather.
Dennis was well loved by his close family, friends, and community and will be greatly missed by all. Dennis leaves to mourn his passing, four sons: Darryl S. Smith;
Michael A. Smith (Derek W. Brown); Dione Smith; and Genorace T. Robinson; and one daughter, Nicole M.
Bartell (Germond Bartel; 8 grandchildren: Whitney R.
Smith; Dionne K. Smith: Marcus J. Smith; Barbara A.
Smith; Sierra Smith; Michael A. Bennett; his "Boo Boo" Nezjuwa T. Robinson; and Grant W. Bartell. His great grandchildren Milani Aisha Smith and Azariah Anai Smith.
He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Smith Goss, his nephews Derrick Goss and Keith Goss, a niece, Renee Goss Johnson and a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
