David Kenneth Yancey AKA “Khalif” was born on December 3, 1955, to the
late Leonard “Skin” and Evelyn “Sissy” Wake$eld Yancey. David was an at
home birth on Lincoln Street and spent most of his adult life on Lincoln
Street. His maternal grandmother Mary Wake$eld “Ma” delivered him and
then named him.
David attended the Linden School system where he received his GED. He
later continued his education in welding also in Linden, NJ where he received
a certi$cate of completion. David started his employment with an economy
warehouse, there he gained another certi$cate as a fork lift driver. David
worked side jobs as well as doing handy work to help others in need, roo$ng,
landscaping, carpentry, assembling, painting, etc. where ever he was needed
to assist. David main job was with Garden State Brick Face, in Roselle, NJ.
David was a kind and genital soul; he loved people and enjoyed his life. He
has the characteristics like “King David” he was competent, courageous,
committed, and very confrontational. He will win the battle! As a child he
would play “hit the bottle” and boy his aim was always on target. His mom
and grandmother “Ma” said “yep, he has the right name and they all would
just laugh”. David had a way with people he knew just how to talk his way
into getting just what he wanted. People loved David and enjoyed being in
his company, wither if it was playing basketball or just hanging out he made
everyone enjoy themselves that day. David was the man on the basketball
court boy he knew he could play he would challenge you to a good game. He
had enough faith to know “he won the game”.
David had a love for his family, his brothers, sisters, and cousins it was a
family thing to him, “hey cuz let me get a couple of dollars” that was his way
of getting you before you got him lol. He started having his own children (all
girls) and he just loved them all to life, it was a di8erent type of love, a love
of accomplishment he felt knowing as they grew he did something very
good, something worth living for and leaving behind a legacy. He couldn’t do
much $nancially but he knew his love could bare all. Even when things
became challenging for David, he would sit back and look over his life and
just thank God his girls are independent and self-starters and ask God to
please give them a life of grace. David lived his life on a “faith” walk a true
believer of God. Knowing God would provide!
